Virgin Mary Appears On Lemon

WATAUGA, Texas, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- A Texas bar owner who happens to be a police officer says he was shocked when he learned his son saw the face of the Virgin Mary in a lemon slice.

Sam Nance, a member of the Watauga police force, said his son, Marty, revealed the Virgin Mary's face on a lemon he was cutting at the family's business, the Texas Billiards bar, The Fort Worth Star Telegram reported.

"It kind of freaked me out," Nance said. "I'm a detective, and I believe in facts."

When he looked at the lemon, Nance said he sort of saw the face. It wasn't until he took a picture of it that the countenance really was visible to him.

Nance is Methodist and his wife is Baptist, and they don't attend church every week. He said they're saving the lemon in their freezer so others can see it.

What causes the Auroras?

Most auroras occur in response to energetic particles from a solar storm, which cause the gases of the thin upper atmosphere to glow. They take place at heights between 50 to 100 miles above the Earth. The aurora can last anywhere between a few minutes to several hours. Auroras are most common in polar regions. The various colors, of which green and red predominate, are the results of various light emissions from oxygen and nitrogen gases being energized by the solar particles.

Auroras are wondrous and mysterious phenomena occurring primarily in the polar regions of the Earth. During an aurora, coloured bands of light appear in the sky and seem to dance around creating an eerie yet spectacular light show in the sky. They are a constantly occurring phenomenon, although they are much easier to see when the sky is dark. Many parts of the world where auroras occur frequently have developed thriving tourism industries because of them.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the phenomenon of the aurora is commonly known as the Northern Lights. Italian astronomer and mathematician Galileo Galilei gave the Northern Lights their Latin name, Aurora Borealis, which literally means "northern red dawn." Auroras occurring in the Southern Hemisphere are called the Aurora Australis, which translates to their more common name, the Southern Lights.

Humans have been fascinated by auroras for centuries. The ancient folklore of far northern cultures came up with very creative and interesting stories to explain the strange lights in the sky. The stories are as diverse as the cultures inhabiting this part of the planet. It has since been discovered that auroras are, in fact, the result of charged particles from the solar wind interacting with the Earth's magnetic field and the various gasses in the Earth's atmosphere.

American Flag Illusion

For this illusion to work, you should look at the flag for about 15 seconds and then immediately look at the white space provided. The ghostly image you see in the white space is called an after image. After images are caused when the cones in your eyes grow tired and loose their sensitivity to the colours they are looking at. When this happens, you will see white light (a mixture of all colours), minus the colour your cones have become insensitive to. In this particular example, when you are look at the white background after staring at the image of the flag, the colours that you should see are the colours on the familiar American flag (red, white and blue) which are complimentary of the colours cyan, black and yellow that were used.

A Hole in Mars (Black Spots)

This is not a illusion image but its worth seeing.
Black spots have been discovered on Mars that are so dark that nothing inside can be seen. Quite possibly, the spots are entrances to deep underground caves capable of protecting Martian life, were it to exist. The unusual hole pictured above was found on the slopes of the giant Martian volcano Arsia Mons. The above image was captured three weeks ago by the HiRISE instrument onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter currently circling Mars. The holes were originally identified on lower resolution images from the Mars Odyssey spacecraft, The above hole is about the size of a football field and is so deep that it is completely unilluminated by the Sun. Such holes and underground caves might be prime targets for future spacecraft, robots, and even the next generation of human interplanetary explorers.

Red Cross Transperant Mobile Billboards

Nothing grabs an audience's attention more effectively than a clever optical illusion. Combine that with an ingenious Ad campaign and you get this brilliant mobile billboard for The Red Cross, currently gracing the streets of San Francisco.

It's photo journalism, meets Hollywood blockbuster movie poster, and it is turning plenty of heads wherever it parks itself. Enthusiastic onlookers have been snapping up photos of the mobile billboard and posting, uploading and sharing them online with friends. This is a brilliant example of how an audience can further promote the exposure of a great advertising campaign through mobile phones, blogs and sites such as flicker. By Andy G
