Musical Disk

Illusory black dots abruptly appear or disappear in white circles when we see the figure freely (= the scintillation grid illusion*1). On the other hand, the white circles disappear when we fixate at the center (the vanishing disk illusion*2,*3).

Purple tops

The piles of tops appear to loom.

Spinning Chevrons

This design will generate apparent motion even though it isn't moving at all.

The motion is anticlockwise. Keep your eyes moving when you look at the image. Use your peripheral vision to see the illusory motion.

Digital bumps

The image appears to be bumpy and appears to move.
You will really get amazed by this illusion.

Scintillating Grid

If you look around in the neighbouring figure you will notice the appearance and disappearance of black dots at the crossings.
Even though this figure looks similar to the Hermann-Grid, it is markedly more vivid. Furthermore, the effect is probably caused by different mechanisms than those causing the Hermann-Grid effect.
1993: First demonstrated by JR Bergen at the ARVO, in a weaker variant
1994: Re-discovered by Bernd Lingelbach’s wife Elke
1995: Demonstrated at the Tübingen ECVP meeting (Schrauf M, Lingelbach B, Lingelbach E & Wist ER. The Hermann grid and the scintillation effect. Perception 24: suppl, 88–89)
1997: Schrauf M, Lingelbach B & Wist E. The scintillating grid illusion. Vision Res 37:1033–1038
2001: Invoked to explain Florida’s election problems (“Count the black dots, recount to confirm…” ;-)

Wanage Illusion

*A game for children to throw rings to bars

The outer ring appears to expand while the inner ring appears to contract. Moreover, the rings appear to rotate when observers approach or move away from the figure while fixating at the center. Furthermore, the color of the outer ring appears to be different when appoaching and when moving away.

The Einstein Hollow Face Illusion

Watch the Video:Einstein Hollow Face

The Hollow Face Illusion is probably one of the most amazing optical illusions we have come across. Plus this is Einstein Year. So... Grand Illusions has commissioned this particular version of the Hollow Face Illusion.

The original head of Albert Einstein was created for us by the sculptor Bryan Parkes and the manufacturing process was managed by David Burder. This is a 1.5 times life size version of Albert Einstein's face, since the illusion works best when the head is slightly larger than life size.

Everyone I have shown it to flips out!! Barry M, USA

It is made from a very strong plastic, and is virtually unbreakable. The mask can be stood up in a window and the whole face seems to follow you as you move around the room. Truly, an amazing illusion... The mask is 43cm high and 31cm wide.

How Is This Possible

Moving Wave

This is one of those illusions that just seems to move, even though it is
in
fact completely still.
This wonderful illusion was created by A.Kitaoka in
2004, who owns the copyright.
