Howard's Color Contrast illusion

As a reknowned expert in clothing color, I can pick dazzling color schemes. You may notice a variety of effects in the swatches. I am using them to select a fabric for my next pair of trousers and coordinated cap. All of the lines were drawn physically straight, but they may not appear that way.

Try rotating your head back and forth, moving closer, or further away. Look at the swatches from a lower or higher vantage point in addition to looking straight on. You may notice other effects. You might also notice that the simultaneous contrast phenomena change with spatial frequency and orientation. Viewing complementary colors in close proximity will lead to the 'dazzling' or 'shimmering' effect.

Other than the colors in my shirt, there is only one 'red' value and one 'blue' value in all of the swatches. Your monitor and other sources may perform some correction that would limit the contrast, yet the swatches may seem very different.

Marylin Monroe-Einstein illusion

When you look at the image below, whose face do you see? At normal screen viewing distance you should see the face of the great scientist Albert Einstein. Now squint your eyes or take a few steps back from the image. Does a certain Hollywood personality pop into view? The Marylin Monroe-Einstein hybrid image was created by Dr. Aude Oliva for the March 31st 2007 issue of New Scientist magazine.

It's not just a crafty illusion. This sort of image is being used as a tool to understand better how our brains process visual scenes. On the practical side, some companies are interested in using them to conceal information from unintended observers - or to create printed advertising that morphs before your eyes.

In the traditional presentation of the Ebbinghaus illusion, two central circles are of the same physical size appear to be different sizes as a result of the context circles surrounding them. Which central red circle looks larger?

I hope you answered that the one on the left looks larger, but what if I asked you to pick up each of the two central circles? Would your reaching movement betray a susceptibility to the illusion?
Actualy those both red circles in middle are in same size.
